"Suicide Prevention is everyone’s business."--Natrona County Suicide Prevention Task Force.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and Wyoming consistently has one of the highest suicide rates in the country. The "Breaking The Silence Walk" on September 23rd, organized by the Natrona County Suicide Prevention Task Force, is one of the efforts to raise awareness about the problem.

According to the Wyoming Department of Health, suicide is a leading cause of death in Wyoming and the impacts that are felt by individuals, families, and communities throughout the state. Suicide affects all ages, all backgrounds, all racial and ethnic groups, all across Wyoming.

So why should you join the walk? A Suicide Prevention Task Force Newsletter explains:

"Maybe you will walk to support suicide prevention, or because you want resources that can help you to talk to someone about suicide.
Or...
Maybe you will walk to share your own personal story with others who have been
impacted by suicide or to reach out to someone else, to provide the support we all need.
Or...
Maybe you will walk to learn how you can help, to honor your lost loved one, or to show
that together we can make an impact."

The Event:

The 14th Annual Breaking the Silence Walk will be held Saturday, September 23rd, at Mike Lansing (Castle) Park. The free event starts at 4:00 p.m., and there's no need to fill out a registration. There will be various musicians along the walking path, Kona Ice for a treat, and the first 300 supporters who attend will get a free dinner catered by Jersey Mikes.
