David Bowie was a creative genius, although there was a milestone that seemed to always elude him.

One week after his shocking death, Bowie's recently released album 'Blackstar' has debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.

Blackstar sold 181 thousand equivalent album units, including 174 thousand in pure album sales. The latter total represents the biggest sales week for a Bowie album since Nielsen began electronically tracking such sales in 1991.

Best of Bowie, a greatest hits compilation released in 2002, is #4 on the latest Billboard 200, while 1972's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars is #21.

Bowie died of cancer January 10, two days after Blackstar was released. He was 69.
