Amon Amarth frontman Johan Hegg was the special guest on Full Metal Jackie's radio show this past weekend. Hegg spoke with Jackie about the just-wrapped 'Deceiver of the Gods' North American tour with Skeletonwitch and Enslaved and also discussed the standout video the band has filmed for 'Father of the Wolf.' If you missed the chat, here's Jackie's full interview with Amon Amarth's Jonah Hegg.

It’s Full Metal Jackie bringing you two full hours of metal each and every week. On the show with us, once again, Johan Hegg from Amon Amarth. How are you?

Alright, doing fine.

The 'Deceiver of the Gods' North American tour 2014 is now under way. Skeletonwitch and Enslaved are part of the bill. Johan, how do you think this headlining tour will be different after laying the groundwork on last summer's Mayhem Festival?

That’s hard to know, but I hope we’re able to gain a couple of new fans at every show. Hopefully it’ll be very good shows. So far everything is really good. The shows so far has been great. The upcoming shows are looking good.

Rather than calling them songs, is it more accurate to call Amon Amarth’s music stories?

I think it’s both. When I write lyrics, I try to write stories in a way. Obviously the inspiration comes from stories -- either mythological stories, historical stories or stories in Icelandic songs. Always stories.

We have to talk about the video for ‘Father of the Wolf.’ It's stunning, a genuine motion picture quality mini-movie. Is it a representation of what you actually imagined in your mind when writing the song?

We always think in terms of, we’ve done that for a long time, in terms of movies when we write songs but especially for this album. When I wrote the lyrics, I was listening a lot to the music and trying to think if this was the music for a movie, what would that be about?

Such an amazing video. I know it’s been getting a great response.

Yeah, a lot of people seem to like it.

You guys don’t do it half-assed with your videos.

We try not to.

What can you tell us about the lineup you guys have out there for this tour?

It’s pretty strong package. Enslaved is a great band, one of my favorites. Skeletonwitch have been doing a good job over here in the States for a long time now, so great to have them, we’ve toured with them them before. I think it’s a great package. Killer show every night. People seem to enjoy every minute of it.

Amon Amarth has been touring the States for quite some time, but I got to imagine you guys were touring overseas first for a long time before you started touring here. Are you at a point now where you enjoy touring here in the States? I know it’s different.

At the point we’re at now, it’s actually quite comfortable to tour the States. It’s always fun to come here. We always enjoy it. It’s slightly different, but when it comes to it, it’s not that big of a difference -- Europe compared to the United States.

Full Metal Jackie with Johan from Amon Amarth. Make sure you go out and see this 'Deceiver of the Gods' North American Tour. You’ve got Amon Amarth, Skeletonwitch and Enslaved and Johan I appreciate you doing this call, I know your voice is hoarse.

Yeah.

Thank you for being on the show as usual and I hope to see you really soon.

This coming weekend, Full Metal Jackie will welcome Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler and 'As the Palaces Burn' documentary director Don Argott on her show. Full Metal Jackie can be heard on radio stations around the country — for a full list of stations, go to fullmetaljackieradio.com.
